How these are written

Claims are backed with evidence.

Skin biology isn’t equally settled everywhere. The wording in each article attempts to connect what’s established and what’s still a working model.

01 · Established

Comes from direct evidence and empirical data, supported by primary research. Here, it is stated plainly.

02 · Model-dependent

Uses structural models that allow us to test ‘what-if’ scenarios. Models are powerful tools, but they still require careful analysis as they do not fully replicate real-world conditions.

03 · Plausible inference

Mechanistically coherent with the evidence from related systems, but not yet shown in skin. It is still considered an educated interpretation rather than a demonstrated one.

Start from the basics.

The core biology the rest of the library builds on. If you’re new here, these are the ones to read first.

Reading level · Mechanisms · Depth 2 of 3 · Any order

Follow the system.

How cells, signals, lipids and outside inputs combine to produce what you see at the surface. Read these in any order.

Reading level · Deep dives · Depth 3 of 3 · Full detail

In depth molecular detail.

One question taken all the way down: the mechanism, the evidence behind each claim, and where the evidence stops.
